How to quickly set up ICMA-approved Work from Home agreements
Local governments across the country are quickly transitioning as many of their team members as possible to work from home because of COVID-19. However we've heard from several of our partner governments that it's been challenging to quickly switch from work in the office to work from home. On Friday March 20, ELGL hosted a virtual session about the transition to work from home, and several participants shared that they were looking for more guidance on how to establish structure and expectations for our new home-based work situations. Employees and managers are looking for clarity on:
- What equipment employees have (and need) to be productive at home
- Expectations for how/ when employees will be available and accountable at home
- Acknowledgement that employees will continue to follow key security and policy guidance
ICMA (The International City/County Management Organization) created a set of recommendations for local governments to rapidly develop telework/ work from home policies, and shared a sample form (PDF format). We decided to quickly build a workflow template that any local government can use based on the ICMA's recommendations.
With this CityGrows template you can copy and customize the ICMA's form for your department, team, or entire local government work force that is working from home. And because of the situation we're all in, we're making this workflow free to use for any local government. We're looking forward to your feedback and hope this is a helpful resource for you and your team mates.
